Calling All Departments: A Case for Digital Portfolios

Abstract: The Groton-Dunstable Regional School District (GDRSD) is a pre-kindergarten through the twelfth-grade regional district with a current enrollment of 2,500 students. All students are learning in a technology-rich learning environment with reliable network infrastructure, modern computing devices, and a standards-focused curriculum. With continued progress toward student growth targets on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS), GDRSD must continue to pursue innovative classroom environments, and eliminate inequality for all students. Showcasing the “Middle” Part of the Learning Process

I‘m fortunate to be able to visit our schools on a daily basis and whenever I pass by artwork, I’m drawn in. I have a great deal of admiration for creative minds and how the arts can harness this creativity. Today, I visited the Groton-Dunstable Regional Middle School and came across an art display in our lobby, with photos that were taken during the creation process.

Often times, art projects, which take massive amounts of energy to pull off, don’t receive the attention they deserve. Even worse, projects don’t have the staying power unless they are archived “somewhere” by a photo or video.  Read more…

Master’s of Education in Curriculum & Instructional Technology Portfolio

As a graduate student enrolled in the Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instructional Technology program, I must complete seventy-five hours of field experience, distributed among the concentration courses. To document my efforts for the program, I am maintaining a field experience page as well as this digital portfolio page.

Below are selected artifacts from the program that highlights my ability to collaborate, explore and create. In this fast-paced, educational-technology landscape, these skills must be consistently fine-tuned to provide the necessary support to all personnel in my district. Commentary on Why Blogging Is Key to the Future of Higher Ed

I do a great deal of reading…online. The “screen” on a laptop, tablet or smartphone, is the new location our students must become proficient reading on. Paper-based testing is on the way out and computer based testing is stumbling in. If for nothing more than supporting this new testing platform, students must become comfortable reading on a screen. GDRSD Digital Portfolios Are Here!

With excitement (and a few nerves), the digital portfolios are ready to go!! A great deal of thought and energy has gone into the design and creation of a WordPress digital portfolio template, which will be available to every student, K-12.

In addition to looking very polished and professional, the digital portfolio system will offer each student the ability to create, reflect and be active in their learning. Read more…
